Every canopy starts as a seedling.
Canopy ESG is a set of ESG tools and a daily news digest for ESG teams at companies and financial institutions in Taiwan. Look up the nature around your sites, estimate what its plants take up, compare financial-sector reports and read the day's ESG news every morning, from the first disclosure to the view above the canopy.
What we cover
Canopy ESG groups its work into four areas. Each one is covered by a tool, by the daily news digest, or by both.
Carbon management
Estimate how much the vegetation around your sites takes up each year, and follow carbon fee and net zero news.
The Plant Carbon tool adds up the yearly uptake that a NASA satellite records inside a circle of 1 to 5 km around each address, so every site gets one figure per year and no GIS or satellite skills are needed. The digest follows topics such as net zero and carbon fees.
ESG reporting
Compare financial-sector sustainability reports side by side and see where disclosures differ.
The report comparison holds the 2025 reports of Taiwanese financial institutions, with key indicators and the FSC checklist. Figures were extracted by AI, so check the original report before citing it.
Sustainable finance
Keep up with sustainability disclosure rules and trends across banks and insurers.
The daily digest scans the news for topics like new disclosure rules and files each story under environment, social or governance.
Biodiversity
See the species recorded around company sites and their conservation status, in support of nature-related disclosure.
The Species Search tool matches each species against TaiCOL, Taiwan's official species list, and shows red list, protection, endemic and introduced status, so you can see which species near a site need attention.
Tools
Each tool runs in the browser: you enter your own data and download the result as a file. The tools are open to Grove members, and Species Search and Plant Carbon take up to 30 addresses at a time.
Species Search
Enter addresses and get a species list with conservation status for each site.
You can enter a list of addresses or a CSV file and choose a search distance from 1 to 5 km. Each species is listed once with how often and how close it was seen, plus its red list, protection, endemic and introduced status. It uses sightings shared with TBiA and switches to global GBIF records if TBiA is down. It suits nature-related disclosure work, and takes a few minutes per address.
Plant Carbon
Estimate how much the plants around each site take up every year.
Enter addresses, a distance and the years you want, and get each year's uptake in tonnes of carbon (t C) as an Excel file. Each year is shown on its own, never summed, so sites and years can be compared side by side. It uses NASA MODIS satellite data processed in Google Earth Engine and covers every year from 2001 to 2024.
Report comparison
Compare the disclosures in financial-sector sustainability reports side by side.
Search by company name, view the 2025 reports of Taiwanese financial institutions side by side and download a CSV. The sources are the MOPS ESG portal and company websites, so check the original report before citing it.

The view above the canopy
A short digest of the day's ESG news from Taiwan and around the world, in your inbox every morning with the most important stories first.
It arrives around 8 am, before the working day starts. To build it, we scan the news for topics like net zero, carbon fees and new disclosure rules, keep a story only once when several outlets run it, file each story under environment, social or governance, rate its importance and write a two-line summary. Every story is also added to a running archive.
